Let’s hear it for the girls! More specifically the young women of “Girls,” the HBO hit comedy that scored two big wins at the Golden Globe awards Sunday night (January 13). And despite all the publicity and critical acclaim for the show, no one was more surprised about their wins than the ladies and producer Judd Apatow.
“We’ll probably lose. Doesn’t ‘Modern Family’ always win?” Apatow joked ahead of the ceremony. “They tend to always win, so then I can relax. And if we do win I don’t have to speak because Lena would speak, so there’s no stress tonight except, ‘Can I meet every member of “Homeland”?’ ”
Fellow producer Jennifer Konner echoed his initial sentiments even after they won the award for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy.
“Not in a million years did I think we would win,” Konner told MTV News at HBO’s post-Globes bash. “We’ve had five hours of total programming that the world has seen. We’re brand new, I would be a sociopath to have anticipated it, it’s crazy, I’m still in complete shock.”
When asked what she hopes winning the two Globes will enable them to do with the show that they haven’t already creator/actress/producer Lena Dunham said she hopes that more people decide to tune-in or catch up.
“I think it gives us a new viewership,” Dunham said. “And it’s a complete honour and I hope we’ll get to keep making the show, which is such a fun and joyful job.”
“This is the best job on the planet, I can’t believe it was my first one,” added star Allison Williams. “I’m going to do everything in my power to hold onto it, you’re going to have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers.”
