Ke$ha may have already backtracked on comments she made after radio stations began pulling her song "Die Young" following the Sandy Hook shootings – by deleting a tweet where she said she was "FORCED" to sing the track’s chorus – but now, she’s attempting to clarify those remarks.
In a message posted on her official site, Ke$ha wrote that she made the "FORCED" comment in a moment of "emotion and sadness," and added that message behind "Die Young" is one she still believes in.
"’Forced’ is not the right word. I did have some concerns about the phrase ‘Die Young’ in the chorus when we were writing the lyrics … because so many of my fans are young," she wrote. "That’s one reason why I wrote so many versions of this song. But the point of the song is the importance of living every day to the fullest and staying young at heart, and these are things I truly believe."
After Ke$ha first posted the tweet, MTV News reached out to several of "Die Young’s" writers – including producer Dr. Luke and Fun. frontman Nate Ruess – seeking comment on the matter, but did not receive responses by press time. Though she did delete the message, a second one posted in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook shootings has remained on Ke$ha’s Twitter account … one that reads "I’m so, so, so sorry for anyone who has been affected by this tragedy, and I understand why my song is now inappropriate. Words cannot express."
