Keys, Perry, John Legend, Fun., Stevie Wonder, Usher and Brad Paisley are among the acts that are expected to take the stage at the Kids’ Inaugural Concert on January 19, according to the Presidential Inaugural Committee.
They join a list that already includes Kelly Clarkson, Beyoncé and James Taylor, who will perform at the official ceremony on the West Front of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. on the 21st.
In contrast to the big roster of official and unofficial balls and celebrations during Obama’s 2009 inauguration, due to the lean economic times, this year’s parties will be pared down to just two official inaugural balls at the Washington Convention Center, the Commander-in-Chief’s ball for members of the U.S. military and the main Inaugural Ball.
According to the Washington Post, other acts who will perform at the balls and children’s concert (the committee has not yet specified who will play which event) include: Smokey Robinson, Marc Anthony, the cast of “Glee,” Far East Movement, Mindless Behaviour, Nick Cannon and the youth gospel choir Soul Children of Chicago. “We are honoured and excited to have such a diverse, talented group of musical guests joining Americans from across the country to celebrate the 57th Inauguration,” Presidential Inaugural Committee CEO Steve Kerrigan said in a statement.
“Vice President [Joe] Biden and I are honoured to have these wonderfully talented musical artists perform at the Inaugural ceremony,” the president said following the announcement that Beyoncé, Clarkson, and Taylor would perform on inauguration day. “Their music is often at the heart of the American story and speaks to folks across the country.”
