Justin Bieber has showed off his skills as an MC, and now he’s ready to emcee “Saturday Night Live.” The singer will both host and perform on the February 9 episode of the show.
On Monday, Bieber tweeted, “maybe im hosting and performing on SNL…maybe. :)” and one day later a source confirms to Billboard that it’s all set to happen in one month’s time. He’ll be on the show to promote his Believe Acoustic album. A rep for the show has not responded to MTV News‘ request for comment as of press time.
The news comes days after he vaguely apologized to his fans in the wake of a photo scandal involving pictures of him allegedly smoking what appeared to be a joint. He tweeted to his followers: “everyday growing and learning. trying to be better. u get knocked down, u get up.”
Bieber is no rookie when it comes to the late-night comedy staple. He appeared on it in April 2010 when he was the night’s musical guest. “It was fun, just acting [with host Tina Fey],” Bieber told MTV News at the time. “It was cool to get to be a part of ‘SNL.’ ”
He also made a cameo in the 100th Lonely Island digital short last year where he unenthusiastically teased that “I was tricked into doing this. I don’t endorse this song. No, no, no, no,” while chaos erupted around him.
Bieber is not the only musician tackling hosting duties this season. Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine will give it a try on January 26 with Kendrick Lamar as musical guest. It’s also been confirmed that “Hunger Games” actress Jennifer Lawrence will host the first show of 2013 on January 19. The Lumineers will perform that night, riding high off the release of their breakout hit, “Ho Hey.” Bieber first hinted at his “SNL” gig last week when the Levine/Lamar matchup was announced.
