Charli XCX has two impressive albums to her name, but what’s made her indispensable in the pop music world has been her behind-the-scenes efforts and co-writes. Icona Pop’s “I Love It” and Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” come to mind first, but she also helped author Ryn Weaver’s “OctaHate” — for my money one of the absolute best pop songs recently (and a real treasure to hear live).
Charli’s third album, due out sometime this year, is poised to be a continuation of her shining pop flourish, or as she recently told i-D magazine, a complete game-changer. “This album could change the sound of pop music,” Charli said. “It’s the album I’ve been trying to make forever. And now I’ve done it.”

We’ve heard some snippets of what her third album might sound like via quickly teased SOPHIE collab “Vroom Vroom,” and Charli also said she’s working with BloodPop (of Justin Bieber “Sorry” renown), Stargate and Noonie Bao. The third album, which could be one of a few releases (plural), also has some “high-octane plastic moments and then more piano ballad situations,” Charli said.
You can read the whole interview and see lots of pics of Charli in cool sunglasses for House of Holland at i-D. Oh, and Charli and Mr. Oizo have a new video out today, too.
