Over the weekend, the news that pop’s preeminent power couple Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez had split shook up the celebrity news cycle. Fans seemed pretty devastated about the breakup as both singers tried to keep it business as usual.
Shortly after the news went viral, both Bieber and Gomez touched down in NYC over the weekend. The performers are in town for work purposes; Bieber has a show at the Barclays Center on Monday night and Gomez will be honored at a Glamour magazine event that same night in Manhattan. But, according to sources they made some time for one another in between engagements. On Sunday, the former couple crossed paths at her Big Apple hotel.
“I saw Selena go into the hotel around 5:40 p.m. and not even three hours later, Justin went in,” a source told Life & Style about the rumored reunion. “I saw him leave around 11 p.m.”
Earlier that day, she hit up a Kmart event in White Plains on Sunday and thanked her fans for their support afterwards: “Thank you everyone who came out to Kmart today. Such a warm welcome to my first visit to White Plains. Love you all.”
Also on Sunday, Bieber was in the studio, in between gigs on his BelieveTour. He posted a photo of himself to his Instagram account with the caption, “studiolife.”
While the news officially broke late Friday, the pair had reportedly split one week before. A source told E! News that busy schedules were a cause for the split. However break-up rumours had previously persisted when Bieber was spotted at a performance of “The Lion King” with a group that included 19-year-old Victoria’s Secret model Barbara Palvin. Gomez seemed to comment on that rumor when she tweeted out a photo of Bieber, Palvin and Lil Twist on November 9 with a caption that simply read “… ”
For her part, Palvin has denied anything romantic happened between her and Bieber. She denied the rumors on her Twitter account, “last time im saying it. please calm down.there is nothing going on w him.i met him and did a pic w him. wouldnt u do the same?:)#friendship.”
On Saturday, the same day he danced around the break-up report in a radio interview with Open House Party, he took the stage in Boston on Saturday night and played the classic Justin Timberlake break-up track, “Cry Me A River.”
“#grateful #smiling. thank you. alot of thoughts. but it is always us. thank you thank you thank you. love u we will never stop. thank you for believing in me. making me believe in myself. and knowing that WE win…OUR ALBUM. OUR SUCCESS. OUR SMILES,” he wrote on Twitter. “i love u. #beliebers.”
