Sharlene Chiu – MTV News

Sharlene Chiu was first introduced to the airwaves as an MTV News reporter on the original hour version of MTV Live. The regular weekly News segment featured Sharlene traveling around the world reporting on music events and trends. Sharlene also established an exceptional reputation for her passion in selecting and supporting new independent music through her interviews with today's most exciting breakout artists for On the Radar, a segment that also aired within MTV Live. In 2008, MTV News developed into its own half-hour program and became the new home for Sharlene, On the Radar, and many more entertaining and informative features to come. With MTV News, Sharlene continues to be a constant on the festival circuit, covering a wide range that include SXSW, ACL, Osheaga, V Festival, and T in the Park. Notably, Sharlene's recent coverage from South by Southwest and Austin City Limits aired as half-hour News specials on MTV. Sharlene's blend of her signature charm and remarkable research has resulted in numerous honest and revealing artist interviews. Since starting at MTV, Sharlene has interviewed over 250 artists, from Coldplay to Rihanna to Kings of Leon… and everyone in between. Sharlene's interview with M.I.A., during the album Kala, where the artist had just returned from humanitarian work in Liberia and Australia, ran on multiple MTV networks including MTV Australia, Germany, UK, and Sweden. In 2010, Sharlene created SHARLENE VS., an MTV News travel series that discovers a city first-hand through bands and artists from the area who take Sharlene under their helm, showing off unique, off-the-beaten-track spots that are special to them. Cities explored in VS. include Lyon, Austin, and Isle of Wight. Before appearing as an MTV News reporter, Sharlene worked behind-the-scenes as a segment producer for MTV Live. Driven by her relentless love of music and desire to express it through video, Sharlene began working in the industry at the age of 17, doing many internships and production gigs throughout high school and university. Sharlene graduated from Ryerson University's coveted Radio and Television Arts program in 2005. While at Ryerson, Sharlene DJ'd a British music show on the campus radio station.
