Don’t worry, Chloe Moretz, nobody’s going to laugh at you — and if they do, well, that’s what your telepathic kill skills are for!
The “Kick-Ass” and “Let Me In” actress is stepping into what’s looking like her most iconic role to date as the title character of “Carrie,” director Kimberly Peirce’s remake of the classic 1976 horror movie. Entertainment Weekly has the first look at two new images from the film, one of which shows Moretz wearing her character’s treasured prom dress, soaked head to toe in enough blood to make even Edward Cullen squeamish.
“We only have, like, four chances to get it right,” Moretz told EW about shooting the scene where a blood-covered Carrie goes nuclear on her fellow students at prom. “Because that stuff stains your hair.”
In addition to the bloody first look at Carrie, EW also has a new photo showing a knife-wielding Julianne Moore as Carrie’s mother, a God-fearing woman who has had more than a few brushes with psychosis of her own.
“This woman has clearly had a psychotic break, perhaps several,” Moore said of her character. “But what’s sad about it for me is that she’s clearly sick and here’s this poor child in the thrall of this person who is seriously ill. And on top of that, they have this mother-daughter relationship. So we want to make that relationship as meaningful as possible, even though it is horrible and destructive.”
Previously, Moretz told MTV News that her version of “Carrie” would lean more on the Stephen King novel than the original Brian De Palma film.
“De Palma’s movie is absolutely amazing. Kim is actually really good friends with De Palma, and they’re talking about the movie and they’re good friends, so we’re taking a lot of his notes,” Moretz said. “But what we’re actually doing is we’re taking the book and we’re breaking the book down and we’re putting a lot of elements of the book into our story, so it’s more of like a ‘Black Swan’ version of it. So you really see the mythology of the character and you really see everything going on with Carrie. It’s darker.”
